چکیده

It has long been conjectured that tuning the barrier of a Josephson junction to lie close to the metal-insulator transition will enhance the switching speed and provide optimal performance. We examine a new class of junctions, so-called SCmS junctions, where the barrier is a correlated metal (or insulator) close to the metal-insulator transition. We show that high products and moderate temperature derivatives of can be achieved when the thickness and metallicity of the barrier is properly tuned. We believe these junctions show promise for the fastest speed digital electronics operation.

7.8 History of Superconductor Analogtodigital Converters

An Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) is a mixed-signal electronic circuit that converts an electrical signal from the analog domain to the digital domain, typically providing N binary bits at the sampling frequency f s. The higher speed of superconducting circuits comparable to conventional circuits provided an initial interest in superconductor technology for ADC applications. One can find tec...

Theory of the Josephson effect in unconventional superconducting junctions with diffusive barriers

We study theoretically the Josephson effect in junctions based on unconventional superconductors with diffusive barriers, using the quasiclassical Green’s function formalism. Generalized boundary conditions at junction interfaces applicable to unconventional superconductors are derived by calculating a matrix current within the circuit transport theory. Applying these boundary conditions, we ha...

Quasiclassical Green’s function theory of the Josephson effect in chiral p-wave superconductor/diffusive normal metal/chiral p-wave superconductor junctions

We study the Josephson effect in chiral p-wave superconductor/diffusive normal metal DN /chiral p-wave superconductor CP/DN/CP junctions using quasiclassical Green’s function formalism with proper boundary conditions. The px+ ipy-wave symmetry of superconducting order parameter is chosen which is believed to be the pairing state in Sr2RuO4. We show that the superconducting pair amplitude induce...

Anomalous Josephson effect in p-wave dirty junctions.

The Josephson effect in p-wave superconductor/diffusive normal metal/p-wave superconductor junctions is studied theoretically. Amplitudes of Josephson currents are several orders of magnitude larger than those in s-wave junctions. Current-phase (J-phi) relations in low temperatures are close to those in ballistic junctions such as J proportional to sin(phi/2) and J proportional to phi even in t...

Identifying the chiral d-wave superconductivity by Josephson φ0-states

We propose the Josephson junctions linked by a normal metal between a d + id superconductor and another d + id superconductor, a d-wave superconductor, or a s-wave superconductor for identifying the chiral d + id superconductivity. The time-reversal breaking in the chiral d-wave superconducting state is shown to result in a Josephson φ0-junction state where the current-phase relation is shifted...
